Greta Benini

Graduated with highest honors in Piano in 1995 in Ravenna, she continued her studies in the Conservation of Musical Heritage and obtained the Diploma of Advanced Piano Studies with Pier Narciso Masi at the Accademia Musicale in Florence. She also holds a Diploma of Specialization in Piano Pedagogy from the “Incontri col Maestro” Academy in Imola, and a Second-Level Academic Diploma in Piano with 110/110 cum laude from the Pareggiato Music Institute “G. Verdi” in Ravenna. She furthered her training with distinguished masters including Christa Butzberger, Riccardo Risaliti, Boris Petrushansky, Franco Scala, Alexander Lonquich, and Konstantin Bogino.

Her interest in German Lied led her to Vienna, to the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst, where she studied piano with Hans Petermandl and Lied with David Lutz and Carolyn Hague.

She has participated in numerous national and international competitions, receiving significant awards, including Second Prize at the International Lied Competition “Guarda l’Europa” and the Special Prize for opera accompanists at the International Belvedere Competition in Vienna.

From 1999 she embarked on an extensive career as a répétiteur, working in German, Italian, and French at leading Viennese institutions: Kammeroper (1999–2000), Taschenoper (2000), Volksoper Wien (2000–2003), and Wiener Festwochen (2002). She also worked as an accompanist for opera, Lied, and oratorio in the vocal studios of the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna.

She has worked as a pianist assistant and accompanist alongside internationally renowned artists such as Robert Holl, Christa Ludwig, Walter Berry, Norman Shetler, Walter Moore, Paul Hamburger, Hilde Zadek, and Carlos Montané (Indiana University).

Since 2006 she has been a faculty member in Opera and Vocal Music at the Vienna State Conservatory, and since 2003 she has taught chamber and vocal music at the Institut for European Studies in Vienna.

She has served as musical and linguistic assistant for major operatic productions, including Mozart’s Don Giovanni conducted by Bertrand de Billy with the Austrian Radio Orchestra, and Wagner’s Die Walküre conducted by Víctor Pablo Pérez with the Galicia Orchestra at the Opera House in A Coruña.

Since 2015 she has been on the faculty of the Sankt Goar International Summer Academy, teaching German Lied and Italian, German, French, and Spanish vocal chamber repertoire.

She collaborates regularly with internationally acclaimed singers including Bernarda Fink, Hanno Müller-Brachmann, Genia Kühmeier, Wolfgang Holzmair, Birgid Steinberger, Florian Boesch, Georg Nigl, Grigory Kunde, Bryn Terfel, Andrea Rost, Melba Ramos, Vincent Schirchmacher, Vladimir Stoyanov, Etery Gazazyan, Arona Bogdan, and Nicola Ulivieri.

She performs in prestigious concert halls in Austria and Italy, including the Musikverein, Bösendorfersaal, Steinwayhaus, Ehrbar Saal, Kammeroper, Radiokulturhaus, Festspielhaus St. Pölten, Styriarte, and the Teatro Regio in Parma.

She has recorded Schubert’s Winterreise for Austrian Radio with baritone Florian Boesch, with whom she has toured internationally. With soprano Melba Ramos she recorded a CD for Naxos devoted to Granados, Mompou, and Obradors.

Since 2017 she has been musical and stylistic coach for the Mozart Programme of the Angelika Prokopp Academy of the Wiener Philharmoniker. She served as Senior Artist and Studienleitung at the Kunstuniversität Graz (2011–2017), and currently holds the position of Music Director of the Opera Master Programme at MUK – Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien.
